Monday 24th November 2003: There is still life in Hang Seng!
Although the Hangers are not doing anything at the present time, because of other commitments, Grant has assured me that next year Hang Seng plan on making a triumphant return to the music scene. So keep your eyes peeled in your local press, and I will keep you updated on any new developments!
Wednesday 6th August 2003: Pending official statement
Coming soon will be an official statement from Grant Walmsley regarding the future of Hang Seng. I will let him give you the final word, but I also want to let you know, straight from the horse's mouth, that the Hangers are still alive and kicking, with around thirty demos on the burner!
Wednesday 23rd July 2003: Hang Seng - thank you and goodnight?
I have been informed by several sources in and close to Hang Seng that the band have decided to call it a day. After the departure of their stylish bass player Felicity Chicoteau, the remaining members Grant Walmsley and Col Hatchman attempted to carry on without her, putting in a massive effort to rehearse their songs post-Flea whilst scouting for a replacement bassist. Unfortunately, as far as I know, this has not been an easy task for the Hangers. In addition to this, Grant has been extremely busy with his new studio and label One Henry (so named because of the address), teaching at a few institutions in Newcastle and generally bending over backwards to contribute to the Novocastrian music industry. With his committments, I can imagine it would be almost impossible to devote as much time to Hang Seng as he'd like. I'm not entirely sure what Hatch has been up to, but i'd imagine he was keen to keep the Hangers candle burning as well.
The official Hang Seng website has vanished, leaving this as the only online resource for Hang Seng. I have yet to receive official word, but this is about as official as it can get without the word coming from the horse's mouth. I'll keep you all informed. I am still inviting contributions from fellow Hangers fans, such as articles and pictures.
Friday 20th March 2003: Felicity has left the building!
Hang Seng have announced the departure of their bass player Felicity 'Flea' Chicoteau.
It is believed that Felicity will now be channelling all of her energy into her other band Rahtzee, and i'm sure the fans wish her success in her future ventures.
However, this does not spell the end of Hang Seng. On the contrary - Grant and Hatch are working harder than ever to record tracks for upcoming releases, with a secret 'mystery guest' being brought in as their studio bass player. At this point they are still deciding on their onstage line-up, having to deal with the absence of Flea. As a result of their devotion to their recording and other committments, Hang Seng may not make any live appearances for a while - but i've been assured that Hang Seng are still going to be as loud and as thrilling as ever!
